Driftwood Beach: Jekyll Island
Driftwood Beach is a short out and back trail on Jekyll Island in Georgia. It is just 0.3 mi with unique views. While the trees are there as a result of decades of erosion, it is truly a spectacular place to visit. We were there in February and it was pretty chilly. The mist andContinue reading “Driftwood Beach: Jekyll Island”
Providence Canyon State Park
Growing up on southwest Georgia, we frequented Providence Canyon for some hiking with actual elevation and unique scenery. Also known as the Little Grand Canyon, Providence Canyon is one of Georgia’s 7 natural wonders. It was created by poor farming practices in the 1800’s. The hiking opportunities are the biggest attraction here. Canyon Loop TrailContinue reading “Providence Canyon State Park”
Chimney Rock State Park
We visited Chimney Rock Park in Chimney Rock, NC in June and the weather was perfect. The 315 foot spire features views of Lake Lure and Hickory Nut Gorge. Gorgeous views! There are tons of great hiking trails there, but the kids were not up to it. We cheated and took the elevator to theContinue reading “Chimney Rock State Park”
Pickens Nose
This is a 1.4 mile out and back trail outside of Otto, NC. The drive there is a little tricky as it is gravel roads for 5.5 miles, mostly 1 lane. The trail is easy with lots of off shoots with great views with a big payoff at the end. I love the rhododendron tunnels.

Max Patch is just a short trek up from the parking lot in the Pisgah National Forest. The mountain is a well known spot on the Appalachian Trail. The bald mountain is 4,600 ft with 360 degree views. We went just for the afternoon but definitely want to do sunset and sunrise from here whenContinue reading “Max Patch”
Jacks River Trail to Beech Bottom
For my very first real backpacking adventure, Smalls and Talls took me to the Cohutta Wilderness to Jacks River. I absolutely fell in love with the Cohutta Wilderness here. In order to reach the trailhead, we drove several miles of dirt roads that were a bit rough and mostly surrounded by private property. There wereContinue reading “Jacks River Trail to Beech Bottom”
